So today after driving Sheila home a quesion came to mind that has come to my attention alot.... What do the 1st and 2nd gear things do on my automatic transmission car? So I tested. WHen I put the car into 2nd gear the engine whines more, but when I took my foot off the gas I noticed a dramiatic decrease in speed, and the fealing of the cars foward momentum dropping. Since I had the road to myself I tested some more. I put the car in Drive and Did the same test. The car stayed at or around the speed I was traveling for a logner period of time. So I figure that if I am in snowy\icy conditions puttign my car into 2nd gear and letting it whine a little would be better becasue I would get isntant de accelaration without having to apply my breaks. Granted this wont help me if a car slams on there breaks in front of me, but when I am comign to a turn it would help... I think. So my quesion I put to all of you out there... Is my Theory correct? Incorrect? Will driving my car in 2nd gear hurt it? You can comment on this right here... Stay warm!
